Hisense SA has been recognised by the Proudly South African initiative as a key strategic partner in its national campaign to bolster local manufacturing, create jobs, and strengthen South Africa’s economy through homegrown innovation and production.

Hisense SA was celebrated for its investment in localised manufacturing at the launch of Proudly SA’s business to consumer online store, aptly named Shop Proudly SA.

The launch, in partnership with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), also included the release of a business-to-business (B2B) online platform called the Market Access Platform (MAP), which was developed in order to provide corporate buyers wishing to meet their localisation targets with access to a database of over 2 000 enterprises across industries that have been vetted and accredited by the Proudly South African initiative - including Hisense SA.

In alignment with Proudly SA’s commitment to ramping up localisation, Hisense SA stands out not only as a global technology leader but as a company deeply rooted in South African soil. Operating since 1996, Hisense SA has invested significantly in the local economy, with its R350 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Atlantis, Cape Town. The factory currently has capacity to produce up to 500 000 refrigerators and 1 000 000 televisions per annum, both for local and export markets - with products distributed to over 3,500 stores nationwide and exported to more than 10 countries across Southern Africa.

Among Hisense SA’s many milestones is the introduction of South Africa’s largest television — the groundbreaking 116-inch UX TV. As part of its ongoing localisation strategy, Hisense continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities to bring premium, large-format displays to South African consumers and beyond.

“Our vision has always been to build more than just electronics-we want to build futures,” said Alex Chen, Brand Marketing Manager at Hisense SA. “By manufacturing locally and expanding our export footprint, we are able to uplift local communities, develop high-value skills, and ensure that South African consumers have access to premium technology made on home soil.”

Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, commented: “At the core of our industrialisation agenda lies a straightforward truth: we must build local, buy local, and support local. Localisation is not just a policy choice, it is a national imperative for job creation, industrial development, and economic sovereignty”.

This recognition by the Proudly South African initiative aligns with Hisense SA’s broader localisation strategy, which includes fostering supplier development, supporting enterprise growth, and promoting employment across the tech and manufacturing value chain. As e-commerce continues to grow through new digital procurement platforms like Shop Proudly SA and its Market Access Platform (MAP), Hisense SA remains well-positioned to play a vital role in powering local value chains and meeting procurement goals of both private and public sector stakeholders.

In an increasingly competitive global market, the partnership between Hisense SA and Proudly SA represents a shared commitment to economic sustainability, job creation, and homegrown excellence.
